Question

Why I'm getting ultra low FPS all of a sudden ?

Mar 30, 2018 7:52AM PDT

So yesterday I was trying to play Fortnite and my game which normally runs at 80 FPS is 19(!) -20 FPS in game

Thought maybe it's because of update that came out same day but when I tried FIFA 18 and GTAV all had same issue - extremely low FPS

I've tried to unistall my GPU drivers with DDU and install new ones - it helped yesterday ,thought problem is over but when I tried to play today problem came back :/

Temps are normal ,checked both GPU and CPU while running game

My specs:

CPU: i5 2500k

GPU: R9 280x

memory : 8 ddr3 Corsair

PSU: XFX Pro 550 W

Mobo: Asrock p67 pro3

and not sure that even though Eset a/v is disabled and Defender enabled would slow this down ?

I found 3 or more protection apps.

"Double, double toil and trouble"?

Yup.

Answer
First look at the Speccy.
Mar 30, 2018 11:13AM PDT

1. The Seagate Read Error Rate is very high. I'd test without that drive.
2. For now, unplug the Optical drive if not in use.
3. Many connections to the internet for system. Turn off update sharing. Read
https://www.howtogeek.com/224981/how-to-stop-windows-10-from-uploading-updates-to-other-pcs-over-the-internet/

4. Mismosh of security? Bitdefender, ESET and GridinSoft. Is there more?
Clean that mess up. Go native for now.

5. GyazoUpdateTaskMachine? Some booster app? Clean that stuff up.

6. StartCN? More Slimware. Clean.

There's a lot going on here. Lots to remove to get back to stock.

7. CCleaner64. If it's monitoring, that and your dodgy Seagate are a recipe for odd delays.

8. nordvpn-service. NordVPN is a no logging VPN but when it's on can dog gaming.

9. SoftEther VPN Client? TWO VPNs? Make a choice.

10. CPU CORE: 0.960 V
Looks low for the 2500K. Give it another 0.1V just to stay out of trouble. Temps look fine.

11. Good choice for DNS.

12. The r290 and 280 were known to thottle early on games. It may be time to replace it's heatsink compound. Plenty of tutorials out there. Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQCkJ_4R-CI

1. How could HDD affect FPS in games - not to mention i have low FPS in games installed on other SSD
2. OK
3.Done
4. I only use ESET -Gridin soft is only trojan/malware little removal tool
5.Gyazo is screen capture software
6.StartCN is part of GPU amd drivers
7.I'm not getting delays , extremely low FPS - just found out GPU clocks are locked
8.
9. Why can't use two ?
10. IT's default voltage for this CPU -never had problems with it
11.
12. Temperatures are ok though

I'm OK with that.

And see it all the time. My reading is about everything that stands out. It does not mean I will nail it but often it helps.

As to the GPU clock rates, my bet is the Slimware Utilities has done it again.

A retry can cause unexpected pauses as the drive retries. It's a well discussed problem so I'll be short on why here.

Nope. You have more than one set of anti-tools. Can make for odd problems. Your choice but when it is, I stand aside and watch,.

5.Gyazo is screen capture software
And completely optional. The goal here is less. Less of every app that runs.

6.StartCN is part of GPU amd drivers
My research is "StartCN | Slimware Utilities" which is known to create your troubles as it updates a driver and blammo. New problems.

Let's be clear. Drivers do not wear out. Once you have it working, STOP. Do not update.

7.I'm not getting delays , extremely low FPS - just found out GPU clocks are locked
Hopefully to the high speed or automatic when needed. If locked on low speed, you solved this one.

8.
9. Why can't use two ?
Doesn't make sense to me. Remember we are reading the log and going for anything that isn't stock to get back the speed. If you want to run 2 VPNs you take the risk.

10. IT's default voltage for this CPU -never had problems with it
Fine. Be sure to research this area as I did and it looks low. Since temp looks fine, another 0.1V will keep us out of random lockups and slowdowns, BSODs.

11.
12. Temperatures are ok though
You can only measure where there are sensors and both 280 and 290 were well known for needing this done.

But if you found the GPU clock locked on low, fix that first.

thank you

4. What kind of anti-tools? I'm only seeing ESET in control panel . Are there any remnants of previous tools or something ?
6. Is there any way of turning it off /removing it ?

"But if you found the GPU clock locked on low, fix that first."
yeah I would love to but don't know how

4. Multiple security apps.
Mar 30, 2018 1:29PM PDT

From your report I found " Bitdefender, ESET and GridinSoft. Is there more?"

6. Slimware utilities is a common source of trouble. Sometimes it's fine, next it bites the user.

As to the GPU clock, your card, you've used it for some time so my advice is to go get DDU (see google) then install the drivers from the card maker and see if that clears it up.

this is weird
Mar 30, 2018 2:04PM PDT

I don't have Bitdefender or GrindSoft installed - can you give me localization of those two ?

I've already used DDU and installed newest drivers -didn't help
Was advised to look for old drivers from 2017 because new drivers can cause this problem
Downloaded older drivers but while installing I'm getting :"AMD Installer Cannot Properly Identify the AMD Graphics Hardware" Error

- Collapse -
I wrote GridinSoft

Your report is at http://speccy.piriform.com/results/gwSbqi5oKHmH8npFU3XDOIz

Under Scheduler are two of those. It's your report and your PC so I wonder if you haven't looked it over for a long time.

As you use your PC, various downloads can install apps you weren't aware of. This and more is why we get the report and do a deep reading.

Can I get rid of them somehow ?
Mar 30, 2018 2:20PM PDT

If they're not in control panel unistall tab ?
Manual search in Win is **** and ofc it doesn't give me any results

- Collapse -
What is "ofc"?
Mar 30, 2018 2:24PM PDT

Anyhow, there are tutorials about the scheduler and removing items there.

You've done some cleanup so if this was mine I'd clean it up with research with google.

But the main problem looks to be the GPU clocking. I'd get DDU (see google) and when I find what GPU driver I want to run with, I'd DDU then install the GPU driver, reboot and test.

But the GPU compound for me is also what I'd work. At the very least go ahead with an early canned air cleanup. (power off, etc. just like it shows on youtubes.)

ofc -of course
Mar 31, 2018 1:47AM PDT

I think I solved the problem - unistalled Afterburner and again used DDU ,but Ive also noticed that DDU is not removing stuff from AMD driver folder inside system drive for some reason.Really weird .I've deleted this folder ,installed old drivers from 2017 and now it's working normally ,even after turning PC off and on .
