Why I Hate I Tunes- Need Help, Please! Cannot Find Songs

May 31, 2009 4:35PM PDT

We recently downloaded some songs onto an ipod, without using I Tunes (which is the worst, most user unfriendly application I've ever seen). The songs were seen transferring across onto the I-Pod, and when I checked the I-Pod on My Computer, they were there. However, when we try to find them on the I-Pod itself, we can't find them. We tried using the "search" mode, thinking they were in some hidden folders, but the search found nothing.

I went into the settings on the I-Pod on My Computer, and unlocked the hidden files and folders, but can't figure out how to do this on the hand held I-Pod itself. I'm assuming that's the answer; that Apple hides non-I-Tunes songs to further discourage someone from bypassing its confusing, awful software.

Anyhow, I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide.

But which iPod?

There is a disk mode where you have a drive letter and can copy files there but in that disk space the ipod will never play any file you put there.

Itunes hate or not, you left out a key detail so I can't go any further. At least we covered disk mode and that space.

Clarification
Jun 1, 2009 5:37AM PDT

Thanks. Not sure what I left out. I simply clicked on the files I wanted to copy to my I Pod, and sent them from my pc hard drive to the I Pod. I saw them transferring to the I Pod. Afterwards, they showed up in Disk mode on the I Pod, as seen on my pc, so they must be there. However, when I unplugged the I Pod from the usb and tried to find them on the I Pod itself, I couldn't.

Hopefully I'm explaining this so it can be understood. I suspect that these songs are "hidden" on the I Pod, because they didn't come through I Tunes. If so, I want to know how to access them so that I can add them to a playlist and actually hear them on my I Pod. Thanks.

Sorry- left out the information you must want. It's a 4 GB I Pod nano. Hope that helps. Thanks!

Good enough.

You copied files to the ipod's disk mode. Files you put there are just that. Files. These can't be played.

Is this your 4GB Nano? http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html

If so the iTunes alternatives are not ready yet. It's a shame no one told you about disk mode and how files there are just files.

Problem with iTunes
Jun 8, 2009 8:45PM PDT

I had a similar problem trying to transfer tunes to my ipod shuffle. I gather that when you download tunes from other sources than itunes, the songs are stored as data and therefore they won't play on your ipod.

I now have the same problem again (I think) where I have a Creative Zen Microphoto containing lots of downloaded tunes (mostly from Amazon) and now am considering moving over to the dark side into ipod territory as my new car has an ipod connection, not an aux-in. So I can't use my mp3 player. Does that mean now I can't transfer my tunes to the ipod? I guess so! Do u know if there's an adaptor of some kind that I can connect to the ipod connector so I can still use my current mp3 player?
Thanks! Sorry it's a long one!

". I gather that when you download tunes from other sources than itunes, the songs are stored as data and therefore they won't play on your ipod."

You would have to tell more but my MP3 files play fine in iTunes and my iPod. I'm sure there are plenty of other misunderstandings here.

"Does that mean now I can't transfer my tunes to the ipod?"

You would have to tell a little more. But let's just say that "protected" content or DRM material is a problem all over. I will not duplicate the web on that issue.
