Question

Why have I been banned by CNET?

I just got notified that I've been banned by CNET when I tried to post. I haven't insulted anyone, used bad language or done anything else I can think that would justify this action. What's up?

Proper forum to ask that is Feedback forum

I see you have posts in the Comments area at CNET. Maybe something there by your mention you should be banned tweaked someone who moderates that section?

Of course the obvious question then becomes, how were you able to post in this particular forum?

Did you get the ban notice when in the CNET Comments section?

Also, since this site is owned by CBS, maybe they banned you from their sites, and CNET now uses cookies supplied by CBS, maybe that's had some affect?

I don't know exactly how banning works

Maybe it's fine-grained and only applies to certain forums in CNET? I don't recall ever posting content on a CBS but if I did I would think I would follow the same personal code of conduct as I do everywhere - no personal insults, no vast generalizations about groups of people etc. I did comment a lot on that particular story is there a limit on how many comments you can post?

Well, I re-entered the page and I was able to post -weird

Must have been a bug I guess.

Hi Skane2600,

Thank you for reporting this. I have experienced this before and others as well, and it is most likely a hiccup in the CNET's commenting system. You're account looks to be in good standing so you weren't banned. If this occurs again, like you did before refresh the page and see if that works, if not, log out of CNET and sign back in and that should clear up the issue. Sorry for any inconvenience.
