Why don't my audio and video sync in downloaded movies.

Dec 28, 2005 10:31AM PST

I have a toshiba satellite with an Intel Celeron processor, 368 MB of ram and Windows XP. I can play streaming videos Small video clips etc... But recently I have been downloading .avi files. and for some reason the audio and video will not syncronize. What happens is the audio plays fine with skips or lagging. The video on the other hand lags and just plays slowly. I have tried many things such as updates, defraging my drives, Changing video speeds(which just get slower)and scanning for virus'. And the video still won't sync proparly. at this point I am willing to try anything. Sorry I don't know the year my computer was used and given to me as a gift. I think the model no. is 1800-S207. Thanks for your help.

To correct A-V Sync you may have to re-encode such.

If you look at VIRTUAL DUB, a free video tool, one of it's menu items is to skew the audio sooner or later to correct your encoding errors.

If you are downloading such, do tell the web host about it so they know it's off.

If these are pilfired/pirated videos, then please don't ask for support here.

Synch problems, from what I've seen, are caused by dropping

video frames. A good video editor can correct this problem by allowing you to cut the video into parts and position these so that they are in a correct relationship with the audio.
