Question

Why don't external HD movie files show up on my Smart TV

Dec 6, 2012 6:08AM PST

I have a WD 2G External HD connected to my Samsung Series 6 Smart TV via a Netgear router (this is a network so that other members of the family can access it when required). I can view all the files on the HD using Windows Explorer but I can view all the files via the TV. I have read all the forums including how to refresh the HD and this clearly does not to help out. The HD is approximately 85% full. Why after having spent significant money on the TV I have this issue? If it is a memory issue then how can this be resolved? Thank you.

Hi pog32,

Did you mean to say " I can view all the files on the HD using Windows Explorer but I can [not] view all the files via the TV."? If so, that's not surprising. Allshare needs a DLNA server to share these files on the network. I can't recommend one, but if you put "DLNA server" into your favorite search engine, you'll find a bunch of options.

Please recommend a compatible DLNA server for the series 6 Samsung Smart TV. Once I purchase this what do I do then? I love technology and can follow instructions well but it is the process I need to understand.

Thank you.

There are too many.

You should try the search method given and you'll find Twonky, Servio and too many others. Folk seem to have their reasons for one over the other.
