Question

Why does the short cut to glary utilities not work?

Jul 12, 2011 1:32AM PDT

I have purchased and downloaded the Glary Utilities and nothing happens when I click on the short cut link. IObit says it is a broken short cut and when I go into the program in explorer, I don't know which Application to make the short cut. Can you help out with this. I have tried to download and install a couple of times. Every time I start my computer, it wants to update to the latest version, which I have. I feel as though I have been in a "loop" of processes with the installation of the purchased program. Thanks for help, Kat

Answer
Reinstalling did not make a valid short cut link. :(

SO, I uninstalled and reinstalled and this did not produce a valid short cut link. Is IObit interfering? When I right click the icon on the desktop, I get the IObit offer to "short cut fix"

Ouch, both Glary Utilities "and" IOBit!

Sorry, but of all the registry cleaners and optimizers around, those two are the two we least recommend. The fact that we never recommend any registry cleaners and optimizers does not change the fact that we like those two titles the least.

Is there any reason why you feel the need for both of these?

Just so you know.

Moderators (all of them so far) find such utilities to cause more issues than they cure. Also, creating a shortcut is a basic skill and covered in many web pages. I know that many do not want to learn these skills so your complaint has to be directed to the maker of these apps.

HOWEVER there is a lot of malware around that creates some of the problems you posted. Grif (a moderator here) has some posts with what to scan with and I'll drop that link after I write that I'd uninstall those failed apps then try what Grif notes at Then Please Try This.. - CNET Spyware, viruses, & security Forums

Back to those utilities. What were you hoping they would do?

making the short cut
Jul 12, 2011 3:37AM PDT
I do know how to do that, but when I open the explorer and programs and then glary utility, there are a host of applications any of which I know I can make into a short cut on my desktop and I do not find just a main "glary utility" short cut. And no I don't know that it has "helped" anything. Especially as my screen has blacked out twice in two day. The only thing I can think is an EXTREMELY slow refresh rate. I am going to go over to look at the link you included in your post. Give me a bit to digest that and my lunch. thanks, Kat

Assuming you are using Windows

then make sure Explorer shows file extensions, and for good measure that it "shows hidden files, folders and drives". You can check those from the "View" tab in Folder Options in the Control Panel.

Then, once you can see the file extensions of files, you need to find Glary Utilities .exe file in the Glary Utilities Program files folder.

Right click that .exe file and select "Send to..Desktop (Create shortcut)".

Icon message
Jul 12, 2011 4:52AM PDT

Sorry forgot to post the quote next to the icon: "This type of file could harm your computer." That is the yellow one.
The red icon says that the publisher of rkill.exe couldn't be verified. Are you sure you want to run the program? Then after that, the dialog boxes come up for "allowing" or not to let the program through.

Was this about RKILL?

Answer
Ermm because it got a great review
Jul 12, 2011 3:13AM PDT

Cnet, I thought, rated it 4 stars and I read a great review about both. I even saw a video stream with a guy demoing the IObit. SOoooo since I was having trouble with some gaming, I thought here's a solution. By the way the last two days (in a row) my screen has suddenly just gone black. At least the blue screen gives one some info. Could that be related? I hate how so much stuff is out there offered and then find out AFTER problems arise that the very site that is "selling" a product has no real support and just finding out solutions comes from a forum. Where are the techs for the SITE and the products they want you to buy. I think I know just enough to mess my computer up. The reason some of this started was that my Trend Micro subscription is up in October and I thought I would investigate now rather than wait for the last mintute decision. GRRR but thanks for answering the post. Now what should I do? Of course, know if advice coming from you (please don't take offence; I am getting jaded here) is more valid than otheres. What a visious cycle. But thank you very much for addressing my issue. Kat

running the link you said about.
Jul 12, 2011 4:23AM PDT

So ran the link you said to. Do I reboot? no mention of having to do that. so what has that done? Windows system was very upset and told me it would be dangerous to run it. I did on good faith, run it anyway. I guess it was REALLY in the background. Hee hee. Still maintaining a sense of humour. Kat

Your system said it was dangerous?
Jul 12, 2011 4:30AM PDT

What did this warning say? Exact words please.

I have to ask, and I'm sorry to, yet again, question what you are doing, but if some message warns you not to do something, or tells you what you intend to do is dangerous, do you always ignore it and go ahead anyway?

Not usually
Jul 12, 2011 4:46AM PDT

When (I think defender or that little yellow sometimes red shield icon) windows says it might be dagerous, I never have until now run a program or gone to a website. It shows up when I go to run a downloaded program. At the bottom of the screen (which is where IE 9 puts it now) and it runs a screening scan for viruses, etc.
Maybe I have too much in the way of "protection" on my computer. Maybe Defender and Trend are enough. But I remember going to these programs because I went to delete a program ( a game) and it still showed up on the list in control panel/add remove programs. I got the program from a company I have been getting games from for years (oberon) through IPLAY. Ever since they have added their required "tool bar" I have noticed slow gaming. SO the start of looking for gaming helpers like IObit. And now here I am.
