Question

Why does my PC stall when I right click on files?

Sep 20, 2017 7:44AM PDT

I have an SSD which used to be very fast and still is but recently my PC started to freeze for 5 or 10 seconds when I right click on files like pictures. Is my SSD breaking? I don't know what the sign of wear and tear on an SSD is, I have plenty of RAM and an I5-4440 CPU @ 3.1ghz x 4. Also, I have plenty of space left on the SSD (I know that doesn't really matter with them but I thought I'd mention it. What do you guys think is causing this and are there possible fixes?

Seriously though, what sort of mouse are you using? Wireless? Have you tried more than one mouse on it?

Right click can call up add ons and take time. Nothing seems wrong about a delay on right click.

Boot to safe mode.
Use explorer and navigate to some file.
Right click the file.....does it stall?

Probably a shell extension that does more than it should do. If you know which ones you installed recently, uninstall them. If you don't know, go back to the last restore point before "recently". Does it help?
