Question

Why does my pc not get the internet speed it should?

Feb 15, 2019 12:32PM PST

Even when I disconnect the coaxial cable and everything else it is usually at 15 mb/s (I pay for like 100 mb/s but I have multiple devices but it should still reach 25-30 mb/s)

I understand what you are saying but...
Feb 15, 2019 7:13PM PST

For years I have gotten 25-30 MB/s but it's been months since... now I get like 15-20 MB/s (and that is MAX a lot of the time it is 10 or under) Also, I have run a thorough virus/malware scan and it came up with nothing. Also, my computer is plugged into the internet it isn't using wireless. (One thing the internet has told me was to update the firmware for the router but I have no idea how to do this and unless you guys really think this is the reason I would prefer not to do it but I could have my friend do it if it is a likely reason.)

This thread is only writing it doesn't work without further detail. ISPs update their modem routers, there can be line issues, WiFi is subject to interference and can impact a wired connection and the list goes on and on.

Since I have so little to work with I can't pick a direction.

As to firmware if I'm out on a call I do update firmware. I also carry out a spare dual core gigabit router.

Can I get that info without calling my ISP?

I REALLY HATE calling my ISP... What is all of the info you need and how do I go about getting it? (sorry for the newb question.)

There's more than just the hardware information.

And I can't assure you we can fix it since I can't be sure you disabled the setting I noted along with a ban on TORRENT use.

But do share the make and model of the networking gear.

Again, because of W10's new update sharing and torrent or torrent behavior you can't be sure unless you know all devices are under control and not spewing or consuming your bandwidth. This means we only test with our PC alone and WiFi turned off when speed testing.

okay I will make a note of doing this...

I will have to ask about the make and model of all network hardware... but aside from the router and my network card (which is a "Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller" according to speccy... I don't know how to find more information about that...) However, what are all the pieces of hardware I need to tell you guys about?

The more CNET forum members have to work with. Once in a while a member will for reasons such as perceived privacy or other reasons not share. Those discussions go no where.

Here I've replied a few times and have shared some generic advice about what I run into. As such I think you have to let your ISP work with you as they know what they deployed and work with folk that don't want to get into the deep everyday.

I've unsubscribed and hope others pick it up if more information is available.
