Question

Why does my Internet seem throttled until computer reboot

Mar 30, 2012 9:00AM PDT

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows why my internet is slow unless I reboot my computer dail. After a reboot I can get download speeds of approaching 50mbps (averaging around 30 I'd guess via cox cable) but after my computers been on for a day or so, the download speed won't ever get to 10mbps. It actually seems to be capped at around 9.5 every time i check it. The upload speed seems unaffected, usually between 4-7mbps.

I checked networking under Windows task manager. There's nothing using the connection. Does anyone know why this happens? Is there something can clear/reset without resetting the entire computer?

Could be almost anything. But daily? Not long ago we would reboot 2 times a day. Sounds like stuff is getting better!

there are several things which can be causing the issue. McAfee has some tools which will 'clean up' your laptop or you can clear your cache by deleting temporary internet files, history and cookies from IE. (be sure to close all IE sessions for the process to complete).

best way is to reboot, often during a session lots of things are launched and they are difficult to clean up individually without addtional software.
