Why does everyone

Why does everyone use emoticons in the subject line when they can see they do NOT work?

Maybe Adam can fix this.

I see this from everyone, including the Moderators. I usually don't use them.Grin

Why not? ?:|

(Couldn't resist. Happy)

I started using the smiley faces, winks, etc in forums that did not support graphical emoticons, just the plain text, so it's just natural for me. I know that text formatting in the subject line had to be disabled because of some problems it caused sporadically, and I don't think smilies in the subject line have ever been supported. It would be a nice touch if support for it could be implemented, but the text is fine...expresses your emotion off the top and is understood by all who grew up in a world without graphics. Happy

on AOL chat that was the only way to express yourselt. The emoticons are just a fancier way of doing something that's at least 10yrs old. Now if I can just figure out how they do that in emails.....

and life..da da da

You can
Mar 14, 2006 7:06AM PST

You can right click on an emoticon and save them in a folder. You can then add them to emails as gif or jpegs. You cannot type in the coding unless Mozilla Firefox has an extention.

Do NOT download the emoticons from Smiley Central.

Smilies are fun to use.

Most email programs and IM programs come with them.

I would stick to the ones that come with the programs. If you happen to visit a website and see a smilie that you'd like to use in an email, right click on it and choose save image as, give it a name and put it in a special folder. Then the next time that you want to send an email, you can use that image in you email.

Hope this helps.

HI Rick

IF I download the ones that are my faves, would they still be animated when entering into and email? What about the ones you can use with Instant Messenger? If I want to use one in a blog or foruml, as I've been doing, is there a way, if they are saved individually to my pc, that I can still get that code i.e. <img src="etc.jpg">

Thanks Rick, glad to find this so I didn't have to make a new topic,

That depends...

Not all forums, message boards, and e-mail services support images embedded into messages. If you saved the animated GIF file to your computer and embedded it in a supported way it would work, otherwise not. Also be mindful of any usage restrictions imposed by the emoticon's creator(s).
