Question

WHY do the police ask "Okay"?

by JP Bill / October 28, 2017 1:33 PM PDT

Watching Live PD...The police have a habit of questioning a suspect/victim/individual.

When they do this...they make a statement or ask a question and then say "Okay".

WHAT is the proper response to "Okay?"

Without getting a thumping, being charged OR being let go FREE?

I realize it might be considered nit picking....people have speaking traits?

Just wondering what the legal ramifications of the incorrect response would be.

NOT...IT IS NOT OK.

They say "OK" because they are about to give you some hard time. They just want to make sure that you are aware of it and up for it.

I don't agree at all with that

Certainly, police aren't out there to get their jollies by giving people a hard time. It's too many of our ordinary citizens who seem to do that, however. I think Fafydd is probably correct in that it's to ask a person if they understand what was said. It may well be done so as to not sound condescending. It's adult to adult language rather than parent to misbehaving child.
