Why do samsung tv's have notoriously bad wifi?

Jul 22, 2015 11:26AM PDT

It is appalling.
I know it's my fault for not using wired my 2013 tv should be able to connect to a wifi signal and maintain it even reconnecting when the tv or router briefly loses signal.

The only way to get the wifi to reconnect is to turn the tv off and leave it off but then you're playing a game as to whether it will keep the signal.

Wifi isn't new and my Samsung phone, ok its a newer samsung s5 doesn't have any of these issues.

Why ate samsung tvs so bad at keeping a wifi signal?

Because they are made to be low cost.

Figure half the range of common tablets and laptops. It's been that way since day 0 so not much need to write or add but if you want to know why, it's the money. Keep the WiFi distance short.

How far away is the router from the television? I usually recommend keeping it between 15-20 feet from the television for the best connection. Also, make sure that the firmware is completely up to date on the unit, as this could be a factor as well.

You can perform updates by going to Menu>Support>Software Update.

Hope this helps!

I have a wifi extender but I decided to use the wired connection instead.
that keeps cutting out too.

Firmware is all up to date and the cable I'm using is the same one I use for my pc and that doesn't lose the signal.

I don't by this low cost reason. The wifi and ethernet hardware wouldn't cost that much especially ethernet.
Its bad software or a case of shoving too much new technology into a device too soon without having all the kinks worked out.

At least if I leave the tv alone for about a minute or two it will find the connection again with ethernet.
With wifi I have to turn the tv off

Extenders are troublesome.

I see the 20 foot mentioned again. You don't want to accept these answers so where to go next?

But the extenders tend to create rather than fix the problems. Next time use what we use such as Powerline Networking.

And its lost the connection again.
doesn't happen when I plug the same ethernet cable into my pc so the adapter is ok.

Again, Samsung and extenders can be trouble.

I can't find the specific note from TP-Link documenting how Samsung is different. There are thousands of posts about it with router and extender companies making changes to accommodate this.

http://forum.tp-link.com/showthread.php?1558-Samsung-SmartTV-refuses-to-accept-connection-in-client-mode for example is pages long with folk reporting OK with a PC but not a TV.

I'm unsure why we must repeat this area. But for those new to this I understand.

I've found powerline networking to be far better when it comes to appliances. And it's not just Samsung that this happens on. Not that it's right.

I didn't know this

I am new here and was just ranting. I didn't put it any technical area as i didn't think there was anything that could be done about it and this is the first I've heard about issues involving samsung and tp-link which I actually have.

If this helps me I'm very grateful but I didn't know there was ever am issue between these products so never bothered to search as I blamed the tv solely.

I do love my tv inspite of this.
i think it's great

Thanks for that.

I'm sharing how I avoid all this WiFi nuttiness. Either with keeping the distance down along with other tricks but my fav is powerline networking.

Nothing seems to create more rants than a movie bombing out...
