Why did MS Works index get erased? And how to restore it?

Apr 14, 2005 1:08AM PDT

Yesterday, when I booted up and clicked on my MS Works desktop icon, which I quite often do, I got a message that there was a problem launching Works. I failed to note the exact language. When I rebooted and did the same thing, Works History opened but it was blank. The contents of course were still in My Documents.

While this may just be one of those anomalies that make live interesting (like in the Chinese curse "may you have an interesting life"), perhaps there is something to do to avoid a repeat (this is the first time it has happened).

I'm wondering now if I need to open each document, and there are many, in My Documents to once again have them appear in MS Works index, or if there might be some way to have all of the Works documents once again appear in Works in one operation.

Neither of the above is of a critical nature, but I thought I'd just see if anyone has a thought.

Searing files and folders for NORMAL.DOT and deleting each NORMAL.DOT file might help.

They may still be available in C:\Window\Recent History.

But, if you clicked Clear History while in Works History it's gone from Works History but the documents should still be on file in Word douments -> File -> Open.

Hi - it could be a virus. How about checking? Amos
