Why cant i play my DVD's anymore ??

Jun 21, 2005 12:46AM PDT

Hello all,

This is my problem. Up until very recently i was able to play DVD's in my Toshiba Portege 3480 running Windows XP and Media Player 10.

All of a sudden i cant play them anymore. What happens is that when i insert the DVD in my laptop, media player boots up starts playing the DVD and all i get is sound. No video at all.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Ive tried uninstalling it (the best i could do was roll Media Player back to its previous version), no luck. Media Player 9 does the same, i.e. sound but no video

Ive re-downloaded Media Player 10, still no luck.

I can play the DVD via Power DVD however the DVD runs way too slow with both the Audio and Video being broken up very badly. Well, at least i know its not the DVD itself but something to do with Media Player setup.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thoughts.

1. Spyware can do that.
2. Uninstall and reinstall the DVD player software. WMP can not play DVDs without files and filters (codecs) from the DVD player so uninstall and reinstall might fix it.

However, Microsoft does update WMP and could break this function. As such, I can't count on WMP being functional on machines. I know of no fix to that issue.

How do i uninstall WMP ?

This might sound like a stupid question...but...

How do i uninstall Windows Media Player? Ive gone into the Add/Remove Programs and theres nothing there, including looking into the Windows Components.

As far as Spyware is concerned, ive done a complete and thorough check of everything. No spyware present on my machine.

I didn't write to uninstall WMP.

I wrote to do so to the DVD player software. It has the components that WMP would use.

Best of luck,
