Be careful about your wording as I have to take your words on this technical area. For reasons you are about to read about no HD system allows pass through of HD content unless it's stepped back to standard definition or stereo.
If you are trying to get DTS/5.1 out of your receiver to the speakers that's one thing, but pass through is where we hook up our HDMI from the player to the receiver and want HD audio later in the down stream. That should fail.
Be sure to check you have current HDMI cables and that you are connected from source to the HD audio system. SET UP can be annoying but if you are getting sound out of the TV, the BluRay player is not set correctly.

I just bought a new Samsung 6100 Series LED HDTV (Smart TV) and have a 5.1 home entertainment system with a Pioneer receiver hooked up to it. I have a Sony Blue-Ray Disc player with an optical cable hooked directly into my receiver and HDMI cable from my cable box to the tv yet I cannot get either DTS or Dolby 5.1 sound through the receiver when playing movies. I have tried every conceivable cable combination to try to get DTS or Dolby 5.1 sound from my entertainment system to no avail! All I get for options on my receiver are Direct or Pure Direct. What do I need to do to get DTS and 5.1 to play through my system? What is the point of having a HDTV if you can't get the digital theater experience?
