Why can't I email from Microsoft Word?

by Harv / March 18, 2005 1:31 PM PST

Whenever I try to email a document from Word, I get an error message like the one below:

The host '' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: '', Server: '', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I have no problem, when I email from Outlook Express or from web pages, only from Word. Confused

Harv, Did You Make Sure?....
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / March 19, 2005 6:54 AM PST

...that your current e-mail program is the default program like this?:

Open the Control Panel, double click on the "Internet Options" icon, then click on the "Programs" tab. In the "E-mail" line, make sure that your specific e-mail program is selected. If you make any changes, click on "Apply", then OK.

Hope this helps.

Default mail client is Outlook Express, but
by Harv / March 20, 2005 8:36 AM PST

Microsoft Word doesn't seem to recognize it. I've had this problem for some time, but never bothered to pursue a solution. I can't understand why I can email a web page using Outlook Express and cannot do so with Word. Confused

Harv, Maybe...

...these links will provide a fix. (It would sure help if we knew which version of Word you're using.):

First, have you tried "repairing" Microsoft Word, by doing a search for the "" file, (yes, it's normal dot dot then deleting all instances of that file? Whe you restart Word, a new/clean one will be recreated.

You cannot send e-mail messages from Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

You receive a "Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure" error message when you try to send a Word document as an e-mail attachment in Word 2002

OLEXP: File, Send To, Mail Recipient, or Mail Recipient (as Attachment) Missing

Hope this helps.

I discovered that I had set ZoneAlarm to block Word from connecting with the internet. Now, I am able to email from Word again, after allowing Word to access internet connections.

A belated thanks for your excellent advice. Happy
