Why can't I buy a New Laptop without an OS-Namely Windows?

Mar 17, 2007 1:00PM PDT

Why can I not buy a New Laptop without an O/S. I do not want (Windozzze) and I do not want some off the shelf flavor of Linux.

I want to put what I want on it, not what some fascist organization thinks I should be using at my expense.

Why is my money being extorted from me when shopping for a new open architecture notebook for an OpSys I do not require?

Choice? What a joke!!!!!!!!

It's simple

Most people want a computer which they can turn on and run, the big company's like HP & Dell will always sell a computer with the OS.

They work in KISS principle, therefore you get one choice MS. However you can always re-format and install anything you want, hell I've even has 10.4 running on my 9400. The money you would save without an OS would only be $50 dollars (XP Home). It's no real biggie for me but yes in a perfect world you should have a choice.

10.4 on a Dell?......LOL

Now if Dell could only build decent computers that don't explode, mass circuit board failures, cause house fires you may be onto something....LOL

Yep, 10.4 on a dell

Yes you can run 10.4 (abit a cracked version) they also use CD processes which allow the compatibility.

Well I can't speak for you but I've had no issues, and mine was a second brought cheap from graysonline. So far I've swapped out the 7800go for a 7900 go, upgraded the ram and put Arctic Silver on the CPU, O/Ced the 7900 600/800 got a 3D score of 9200 (05).

As for the battery issue, almost all laptop manufactures have had issues including Apple so to pick on dell here is a tad unfair - you really should be blaming Sony

Just because you believe ?most? out weighs the needs of the individual that still doesn?t answer the question.

I have a valid XP license that on a failed notebook which I choose to reactivate on a new notebook. Why would I want another needless license?

The real answer is anti competitive behavior which needs to be cracked down on.

I should have the choice of a license or no license upon purchase not a closed shop gangster extortion mentality imposed on my buying choices.

Going by your reasoning every loaf of bread should include a bucket of margarine which you must purchase because the masses want something to spread onto their slices of bread, but that doesn?t happen in reality because it?s anti competitive, so why should it exist in the OEM computer market of Notebooks and Desktops.

Your right

You think I'm disagreeing, I'm not I'm only offering an explanation for this issue. They cater for the masses not the individual that's life.
