That's a default setting for windows XP and I know of no registry hack to change it, someone else may. However, I got around it by making a new folder in My Documents (name it what you want) and direct the pictures to it.

I have XP on three computers and it is the default folder on each one. I agree with the other poster, make a new folder to store your photos.

Something to consider FWIW.

1. If you find that using your favorite wallpaper causes Active Desktop to be turned on (disabled by default) (thereby using up more system resources, slowing down your system), simply convert the wallpaper into a bitmap (.bmp).

Note: You can use the Windows built-in Paint program. Simply open a .gif or .jpg/.jpeg file by choosing the proper file type in the Open window, and pick your wallpaper. Then choose Save As in the File menu, and save the image in the .bmp file of your color choice. Then right-click your desktop and choose Properties, go to the Background tab, and browse for your newly created .bmp file. Remember to right-click the desktop and be sure that Active Desktop/View as Web Page is unchecked.

2. The article [Q295535] explains the reason for and give the fix for when you set a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) document as your desktop wallpaper, the background of the wallpaper may appear blue, even though the background is white when you view the image in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

3. Set Policies, or by use of PowerToys TweakUI (Table 5-7, Allow Web content to be added to the desktop), "Chapter 5: Mapping Tweak UI.":

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Find the NoActiveDesktop entry. Values are Zero (0 - disable) or One (1 - enable).
