That verifying seems to be a problem with your anti-virus.

I may be wrong but assuming you are using Windows and have an anti-virus scanner installed, then the process is likely to be; Download file -> Scan with anti-virus for infection -> release file for you to use.

The anti-virus scanner normally doesn't kick in until the download is complete and all AVs use different terms for their scanning, so I am guessing that "Verifying" is your anti-virus scanner scanning the file after the download is complete.

If so, then there seems to be a problem with your AV scanner. Which one is it, and is it up to date?

Some other thoughts;

1] Do not use Download Accelerators.

2] I seem to remember a Firefox add-on that scanned files as they were downloading against a central database. Not a recognised anti-virus but a new idea. Check your add-ons to see if anything is playing up.

3] For CNET files, use the "Direct Download" link and avoid CNET's Installer file. I can't comment on the 'underzo.it' download.
