Question

Why???

Oct 2, 2014 10:43AM PDT

Hi - My computer had been acting up (freezing up, running slow etc). so I ran software to "clean it up" and it just got worse so took it in to the shop - they "tuned it up" and I brought it home and I noticed my ZA firewall was missing so I went to Downloads. com to get another copy and decided to try Comodo firewall. When I tried to open it the computer froze up so I tried to restart it and it would not boot - called the shop they told me ZA had a virus and was so "old" and
Comodo was no good either ( ZA had been deleted) So-my question is: Why would someone say this sort of thing when CNet supports both of them or they wouldn't be listed at Downloads.com. I took the computer back to him to fix and am waiting patiently!! I'm sure there will be another charge...any advice???

Thank you for responding...Yes I did use download.com for the software. I've always trusted them for downloading software. If there was malware in it I'm surprised my AVG antivirus didn't find it. I have saved the reply re Grif and will follow up on it. Thanks again. You're the best!!

Viruses are a specific type of malware. Try Anti malwarebytes/. It's a free malware removal app that is more thorough then virus software. Virus software is good for live attacks but AMB is better at scanning.

The thing is, it's not a "virus".

I know, I know, folk today don't care to differentiate what a virus is from a PUP or other. Grif's advice should help you find and eradicate most of that.

In the future go direct to the author's site and even then you have to research if there is some addons.
