Why?

Apr 27, 2005 3:41AM PDT

Why is it htat "Most current post" and "Hot Discission" never includes anything from Speakeasy? Is CNet ashamed of Speakeasy? There are usually very hot topics in this forum, but never mentioned in those sections!

Because...

.... Speakeasy is an off- topic, discussion forum.

The others are on-topic, computer ones. CNet is a computer community.

The "hot topics" are ones that drew special interest in those forums.

Speakeasy was added years ago under a different name. The other forums were not for general conversation. It was intended to give members a place to just relax and chew the fat.

It has been only in the past 3-4 years that there were as many "hot" topics ("hot" meaning folks fighting, pushing buttons, baiting, etc.) as now. Though on occasion a new person would post just to cause trouble, it was not the norm.

The CNET forums were built around the help forums. Speakeasy came about as a way to "divert" the topics not geared to computer issues. Therefore, the Hot Topics and Most Recent Posts center around the Help related forums.

Otherwise SE would be the only thing on there. We do tend to be rather "hot" here (e.g., hot air, hot tempered) Wink

You're probably right...

But the emphasis is still geared towards "Business Exposure" whose objective is to increase revenue by providing a limited amount of services to satisfy consumers, clients, and sponsors.

Speakeasy is perhaps a good add on to break the monotony of high tech discussions and provide users an extended avenue to discuss special interests.
