General discussion

who was Jesus? (inbox)

Jul 10, 2007 8:16PM PDT

There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:

1. He called everyone brother.
2. He liked Gospel.
3. He couldn't get a fair trial.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:

1. He went into His Father's business.
2. He lived at home until he was 33.
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:

1. He talked with His hands.
2. He had wine with His meals.
3. He used olive oil.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:

1. He never cut His hair.
2. He walked around barefoot all the time.
3. He started a new religion.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian:

1. He was at peace with nature.
2. He ate a lot of fish.
3. He talked about the Great Spirit.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:

1. He never got married.
2. He was always telling stories.
3. He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:

1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was no food.
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it.
3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was work to do.

AMEN!

Jokes about Jesus from a self proclaimed atheist are in

extremely poor taste, and, since the TOS prohibits religious debate, it is not possible to respond to crudities such as the idea that Jesus is a woman. The historical documents make it quite clear who Jesus is, not was, and attempts to attack those ideas with 'humor' are extremely offensive. This post should be promptly deleted.

There is no was with Jesus. He simply is.

If you want to tell a joke about something, it's wise to know something about the subject. The penalty for ignorance is a joke which is offensive rather than funny, but I guess offensive in cnet is becoming the norm.

of God and the veracity of history, I don't think they can squeeze through by saying "I was just kidding". That's what too many folks like to do these days. You can see a good example of this by watching Letterman on any given night, and his great moments in presidential history.

God gave a sense of humor, so I figure God must have one. We are made in His image.

I read once that k***** is the N-word of Africa, esp. South Africa. I'm sure your reference was innocent enough, but we may have African Blacks on C|net. (And it would be nice to learn that I'm wrong; world has too many slurs already.)

[edit] Use outside Islam
By the 15th century, the word kafir/kuffar was used by Muslims in Africa to refer to the non-Muslim African natives. Many of those kuffar, were enslaved and sold by their Muslims captors to European and Asian merchants, mainly from Portugal, who by that time had established trading outposts along the coast of West Africa. These European slave traders adopted that Arabic word to refer to their captives, and eventually changed it into many forms ? cafre (in Portuguese,Spanish and Greek), caffar, kaffer, kaffir, kafir, etc. (in English, Dutch, and Afrikaans); see South Africa Kaffir people. Those words were then used to name many things related to Africa, such as the Kaffir Wars, Kaffraria, kaffir lime, kaffir corn, and so on; see kaffir (disambiguation).

Some of those African slaves were taken by the Portuguese to work in their colonies in Asia. In some cities of Sri Lanka, in particular, the descendants of those slaves still constitute a distinctive ethnic group, who call themselves Kaffir.

In South Africa the word kaffir eventually became a racial slur, applied pejoratively or offensively by some whites to African blacks or to dark-skinned persons in general. In Jamaica it is applied by some Jamaicans of Indian ancestry to Jamaicans of African ancestry. See kaffir ethnic slur.

The problem is that the people that can afford them don't know how to drive and those who can drive cannot afford them. That makes for bad chemistry on the highways. I just move over and let 'em fly by if they wish. Somehow I don't see Jesus as being interested in going 190mph. His sandals didn't have the top speed of a Porsche but their stopping distance was much shorter. Maybe tread life too. Happy
