Wow. What can I say... Leopard is definitely more streamlined and efficient than Tiger. But perhaps that can be expected of a MBP. It's great, use it well guys.

I was wondering who is going to get the new version of MAC OS X Leopard?

Wow it looks great. I pre-ordered it and can't wait. I'm getting it for several reasons with the Time Machine feature being the main reason. Nobody backs up their computer like they should and this makes it so easy.
the new requirements and changes. It completed its first backup which took an entire night (USB 1.1) while at the same time, indexing everything for Spotlight. And there's only 20GB of stuff on the 80GB HD, yet it took several hours! Oh well. My Intel MBP loves Leopard. It runs so well on it and I'm enjoying it all right.
Whatever Mac you're running, hopefully it will handle it nicely.

I'm stickin' with Panther, it's my best and safest bet, and should be nice when my RAM arrives in a few days time. 128 just doesn't cut it for me.
if you configure the installation and the machine correctly. The 8 year old Power Mac G3's (gotta love the blue and white) can run Leopard pretty well, save DVD player due to graphics and some other minor apps. But I believe you said you have a clamshell before, so who knows.
Too bad you can't buy a 1.8Ghz G4 upgrade for one of them. The old Power Macs can use those if you order some online. But perhaps it is best for you to stick with Panther. After all, I doubt your G3 will handle it without exploding LOL. If I could find a good condition G3, I'd use Classic just to say it's vintage. I do like Classic for some reason, but I can't find any clamshells worth buying/using. Could use the Indigo SE 466. Best one. But enough of my dreaming.
I wonder if Leopard runs even better on a Santa Rosa Mac. Mine's pre-Santa Rosa yet I have experienced some what significant boosts. Oh well. Maybe I'll find out once I get my Apple branded hands on the soon-to-be-announced sub-notebook MacBook without an optical drive. That will be interesting and it should have the Intel chipsets to take advantage of all those drivers that have been found in Leopard.

I actually though Leopard required a G4 and above to run... I never expected it to be G3 ready. That said, it'd soon eat up my 10GB of hard disk space, and since the drive is only CD ready, it's a definite no-no. While it is possible I don't think I'd like to chance it. Like you say, I am happy with Panther.
Got a bit of an off topic question though. Youtube videos run quite slowly just now, but once I upgrade the RAM past 128MB, do you think that will speed it up? The computer has an 8MB graphics card and displays the "flurry" screensaver fine as well as the iTunes visual.
Though like I said, there have been ways to modify to install system for Power Mac G3's. I doubt that there is a reasonable way to put it on an iBook G3. Of course you can always try to fry it that way
. But yeah, more RAM should increase performance in some way, though I doubt that it will completely solve your problem with YouTube and other online videos. Perhaps it's your connection or maybe 8MB doesn't want to handle the extra work online. And if I remember right, your iBook G3 ought to have a 366Mhz processor. Kind of low, but it can do the job.
Since I have no experience with the G3 iBook, even though I've used one once, I can't be too sure. I'd still love to learn how to use one if I could get one, but I still have some upgrades to work on for my current Macs. Sorry I can't be more help.

The line extended down from the Apple Store in the middle of my mall, which happens to be on the corner and by a Starbucks
, all the way down this very long hallway. It took less than 10 minutes to get inside the Store, and by the time I walked out with a Touch case and a Family Pack, the line was dissolving. It was gone by the time I left, and there seemed to be some shirts still around.
I guess I'm a fanboy, but I didn't install Leopard for several hours until afterwards. One guy brought his MBP or Powerbook and sat on this bench too small for him and immediately threw in the install disc. Waiting around for 20-30 minutes there is kind of sad.
Each to their own.

... of computers in general. Right now on this desk I have a Mac and a Winbox right next to each other; and I cherish them both. I have no such "preference" just that I like... computers.![]()
However I do run into the fanatics every once in awhile, even here on CNET.
I have Tiger on a 13" Macbook. I'm in no hurry.
I actually prefer CNET because there are not a lot of "fans" that argue for the sake of arguing. Over at many gaming forums and in particular the MySpace forums there are a lot of "haters" and "fans" and you see people getting sworn at and called all sorts just because they prefer a Mac. I have log since departed from places like that.
The maturity of CNET (and the zero tolerance moderating, which rocks) is what brought me here. I can actually speak up and not be flamed!!1
I'll eventually go to Leopard here in a few months. I'd just as soon let the suckers who buy it first, got through the headaches of fixing the bugs, and they are out there.
Apple fanboys are Apple's worst enemy. I've never been put off so much than by the cultist-like, uncritical FUD that spews from their mouths. And yes, I've even run into a couple here on CNET, one of whom was so bad, I had to report him to the moderators for harassment. What a immature jerk.
Fortunately not all Apple users are fanboys, but they're out there.

Jeez, it's only an operating system.
since I use Windows just as much as I use Macs. I don't try to shove the Mac superiority on to people, LOL, but I try to suggest it time to time. Though I dislike Windows in some ways, 2000 and XP were very good. I've used them for years and have been satisfied with their abilities. I'm one MS-dependent Apple guy. Without the Office suite, the 360, and all of MS's goods, I'd be kind of screwed, like most people. I can accept and recognize some positives of Windows.
And Macs have their own problems, though they occur less frequently and are not as publicized as Windows problems are like me myself and you suggested. I can understand why you say fanboys are Apple's worst enemy, but would you rather have stupid people spewing stuff that may damage your rep while soaking up all of their cash or not? Apple fanboys tend to buy all the good stuff that comes out.
As for me, I have 2 Macs and a bunch of iPods and useful hardware that I can't really live without. I can say that my hardware, save the Touch, is now all outdated thanks to the MacBook updates yesterday. I didn't go out and buy one yet though. Anyone who's been a Mac user and would buy one of them just for the Santa Rosa chipset even if they already have a recent model is a fanboy.
That's my opinion.

That might be good for Apple but it certainly doesn't make for good conservation around here. If anything, it probably turns some people off who might switch and I for one do not like to be peer-pressured.
Nope, I'd just as soon do without slavering fanboys, Apple, Linux or otherwise...
cash for the manufacturers. Though some of us, myself included, don't do go out and buy every new product on the shelf like fanboys. Or at least preach on and on about stuff (
I only do that sometimes).
But yes, fanboys really do turn off the conversation. Gets annoying.
