Who's firing the "huge oversized bullets"?

N.L. residents puzzled by 'oversized bullets' in sky

Residents of a small coastal Newfoundland community are wondering if several objects shaped like "huge, oversized bullets" seen soaring through the sky on Monday evening were missiles.

"I went to take a picture of the sunset and when I went to do it, I saw these objects in the sky," said Darlene Stewart, a resident of Harbour Mille, N.L., who, with her boyfriend, said she watched one missile-like object for 10 minutes, snapping several photos before the mystery projectile disappeared from view. "At first I didn't have a clue until we looked through the binoculars, but we still weren't quite sure but what we've seen from movies ... it looked like a missile."

If those are jet contrails then its a small contrail. contrails can be very long and to have only the short appearance as the picture offered, suggest something else. Further, the jet contrails to be so observed and at an angle would mean that the jet was assenting and be more noticeable. While the explanation of contrails makes sense, it doesn't seem that way for a person to take a picture, the airplane would be noticeable in appearance. The pciture pretty much defines a rocket, though that too would make a contrail far longer. Its a mystery for sure and I'm sure whatever the reason the govt. may deem time better spent elsewhere. There's seems more to it than the explanation offered and if a missile it has no business being there for the layman to observe. -----Willy Happy
