How do you do that?

Yes, one can format HD in Windows

While, I never had to Re-Format my HD (my computer is
over 5 years old (P-2, 480 MHz)

It may be possible to format the HD, after starting Windows, albiet not from the Graphic Interface >>> Run Command

If you switch to DOS prompt (i.e.: Windows Fully
Loaded) and type format C:, it should work, since
for basic Bootup, i.e.: Command Prompt, only 3
files are required: IO.SYS, COMMAND.COM and
MSDOS.SYS.

When run, these plus the F ORMAT.COM
commands go into RAM memory and should
be able to complete the job

Even if workable, I don't recommend that anyone should
try to go through this route. The correct procedures
are:

Boot From Floppy (CD-ROM Support Not
Required)

Boot From HD >>> F8 >>> Command Prompt
Only

(If your HD has above listed 4 files)

I use to reinstall W98Se a lot...
Jun 4, 2005 9:47PM PDT

at first for stupid reasons..
1. fresh install, trying different modem or other drivers which were wrong. I figured I put too much extra unneeded stuff and didn't know enough to manually delete all associated inf, dll, and other files. I wanted a CLEAN install.
But I learned that it doesn't take up any much room and really doesn't hurt anything, so I quit.
2. Temporary Internet Files, cleanup didn't seem to clean much space. Now I use Windows Explore and delete the contents of all subfolders of "Content IE5", but not "desktop.ini" or T-I-F will be duped under Local Settings. Now I set Internet Explorer Options, Advanced, checkmark Delete Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed.
3. or when I tried to fix a PC with lots of stuff and lots of little errors. I quit this when I started using Norton Utilities 2002...WinDoctor, for a fresh install also. It fixes Sooooo much. $5 to $10 Ebay. I don't like-use any of the newer Norton.
