Twitter is whacked
Nov 2, 2018 10:39AM PDT

I got a "locked" notice once for "racist language". I looked at the post and not a single race was indicated. So, what was "racist" possibly? Using the word "migrant". I didn't know that was a "race" now. It was from a post on Voice of Europe about "migrant rapist". Or maybe "rapist" is the "race"? Their moderators have their heads shoved up some dark place it seems, can't see the light at all.

I'm told it's algorithms first, supplemented by humans.

I would have let "migrant" pass, but algorithm s/w often contains a lookup table of terms, cast in cement.
Illustrates the complexity of the problem, and the unlikeliness of a solution by humans.

BTW, job opportunities at FANG.

They're hiring humans by the bushel. Can't get enough for two reasons.
Increasing pressure by governments to clean up their acts.
Burnout of mods due to the unrelenting filth they encounter.
Ain't Tech grand?

I agree James.

I don;t use Twitter but the word "migrant" wouldn't cause me to lock/delete. I also agree with Doug. Spam filters do use algorithms to find bad posts. But what the bot doesn't get, the humans do. Our spambot gets it wrong sometimes, But Lee is there to adjust as needed.
