White House tosses Dalai Lama out with garbage

Feb 20, 2010 2:42AM PST

I bet those gate crashers had a better exit than this! Picture. Let's hope Toyota's CEO doesn't have a meeting at the White House, no telling which door they might toss him out of.

The same folks who offered the near-blind Prime Minister of Britain a set of unwatchable DVDs now might have another mess to deal with: ushering the spiritual leader of Tibet out a White House side door along a route strewn with garbage bags. Feb. 18: The Dalai Lama and his retinue depart the White House after meeting with President Obama in the Map Room of the main residence. A pile of trash is there to greet him.

Since China didn't even want him IN the White House

I think he did pretty good.

Perhaps the White House/US Government didn't want China to know he was there.

Now you've let the cat out of the bag.

That must have taken months of planning.

Vision in one eye, suffering from retinal tears in that eye,
Feb 20, 2010 3:56AM PST

does not qualify as near blind. It is certainly no picnic, and is very serious, but it is treatable, and I certainly hope that it is treated successfully. I think you're confusing him with the former Secretary of Education David Blunkett who was blind. Laser treatment for retinal detachment and tears can be very successful though I grant you, not perfect. It all depends on where the tears are.

You can see where Fox gets its style.

Yeah, and I didn't like that characterization either

but it was the gratuitous and unproven comment about Gordon Brown which caused me to check the situation out, and to find the Conservative Noise Machine in full spate, or is that spite?

Celebrating soneone's medical difficulties as you seemed to do I thought was tasteless. Perhaps they did give him DVD's, gifts like that are tokens of respect, not particularly presents for the individual.

Rob, that was just an aside in the article

My focus was the disrespect they showed the Dalai Lama. Would they have treated the Pope that way?
