Question

White dots on Samsung DLP, update on class action lawsuit?

Mar 11, 2015 3:10PM PDT

I saw that there was a class action lawsuit that Samsung settled on for some of the DLP TVs, however it seems that the HL61A650 was not listed on that lawsuit. I'm not even sure if that lawsuit had to do with the white dots but more on the shadow effect. My TV has tons of white dots on the screen.

I reached out via Facebook to Samsung Support and was told that this specific model I have wasn't affected by this issue. I was told that the white dots are part of the day-to-day use of my TV. Not sure why I would be told it's not affected by "the DLP issue" but the costs for the fixes would be my responsibility.

Was there any class action lawsuit filed for this specific model for Samsung? I am considering collecting names/information from people affected. Thanks in advance!

But the 5 year mark is sadly common for DMD wearout. Even Ti (company that made the part) only went to 5 years on the DMD in their own DLP projectors. The settlement was for models that failed earlier than expected.

I know this cheese folk off but there are Ti documents showing this can be in the 5 year area. Mits owners are screaming too. They wanted 10+ years but between bulbs and DMDs there's a lot of bad feelings out there.

Here's a video to show what it takes to change it out. https://www.google.com/#q=change+dmd&tbm=vid
