Lots of good routers on the market today. I like to recommend major brands that seem to have fairly easy setup instructions and have easy to find firmware updates and FAQ pages on their websites. I work with Linksys the most. I also like D-Link and Netgear.
Take your pick:
Wireless-g (54Mbps) broadband routers get the job done.
Wireless-g MIMO (or Pre-n) routers have much greater range and speed, but cost more.
There is an enhanced wirless-g router category ( > 54Mbps < MIMO) that is faster than regular 54Mbps wireless-g, but I would get MIMO for the better speed and range jump. The enhanced wireless-g benefit usualy is only realized when very close to the router (less than 10 feet). It sometimes goes by the name Afterburner or SpeedBooster.
I have been asked by a neighbor to help setup a wireless network in his hime. I have personally had Linksys routers for a number of years but was wondering about what's new these days. I'd like to get input on wireless routers that are dependable, easy to configure and maintain and have good range. Is Linksys still the way to go or are there others that I should take a look at and why? I'd appreciate any feedback.
