Flat and firm

As long as the table is flat and firm then it doesn't really matter. No table cloth or anything else like that as that might block air circulation under and around the laptop, and heat dissipation is always an issue with laptops.

Flat, firm, no cloth or dust.

The problem with any cloth covering is that it can harbor dust or bunnies as well as inadvertently block air flow.

Height and size to your needs.

Basically there are lots of computers desks

out there and you need to find one sturdy and one that is a comfortable height for you. They have portable ones with wheels that can be moved or desks in both glass and wood.
