Resolved Question

Which RAM should I buy?

Sep 3, 2017 8:54AM PDT

I don't know which Ram to buy for my acer aspire 5733.
My DRam frequency is at 533mhz with cl 7. So therefore I should be buying the 1066mhz with cl 7 right?

But in the spd max bandwidth is shown as pc3-10700(1333mhz).

So I am confused as to which frequency and latency should I buy?

If you want to keep your existing stick then you want an exact match.

Use that kingston number and go shopping.

Cpu-z is showing the max speed for that stick.
The machine has chosen a lower speed to mate it to the parts you have.

I can't seem to find the same part.
So that means I should buy the 1066 with cas latency 7?

It's best not to mix ram.
If you can't find an exact match It would be best to shop for a 2x?GB @ 1333 kit.

Crucial suggested me 1333mhz with cl 11.

So if I buy that it'll get throttled down to 1066 with latency at 11 itself.

So instead of buying that what if I buy 1066mhz with cl 7 as to make it to work together.

Why not?

You have a make, model of what's in there, so how much is that versus a new stick.

As to CL throttle down, about a decade ago I tried changing that one setting and could barely get benchmarks to show over one percent change. I now don't worry about it much.

Unless it's the same make and model sticks your asking for trouble.
That's why you want a kit.
If you buy a 1333 kit @ cl 11 and the machine sets the speed to 1066 the cl will drop.

Answer
I rarely go that route.

I head to crucial.com and see what they offer. Remember that mixing sticks is a common cause of many PC troubles. In short, pull out the old, install the new.

Crucial was showing to buy a one with latency 11.
But the one I am running has a latency of 7.

Should be fine.

Remember the note about mixing?

If you want to add more of what you have, then do that but mixing as you know can be trouble.
