Which PS3 should I get?

Nov 25, 2009 5:40AM PST

My boyfriend wants a Blu-ray player for Christmas and I thought my best bet would be to buy the PS3. I am trying to decide between the PS3 slims with 120gb or 250gb. For fifty dollars more would it be worth it to get the 250GB??? Will it make a significant difference? I am torn.

I have to older 60 or 80GB model with no problem on space so either should be fine. Just so you know, out of warranty no matter what the problem is repair runs 150 US bucks. If you are being pressured into an extended warranty it better be much much less than that!

Depends

Depends on if he also will be using it for gaming, steaming movies, and things like that.

If yes, get the 250GB, if not, get the 120GB. And while 99.9% of the time I will agree with Bob on things, in this case I will disagree somewhat. The Slim PS3's use about 1/3 the electricity of the "fat" models, so over the total time of ownership, the slim model should be lower even if it has a somewhat higher initial price.

It's a sad story of a family member who spent too much and the unit failed. I offered them a price for the failed unit after I researched the repair fees.

Yes, get the new unit!

Kudos to Sony service on the exchange. Shiny new plastic and it works a treat now. And it happened in less than 10 days total from web site to fixed machine.
