which processor would be faster?

what's the main difference in core duo and core2duo??
would a 1.6GHZ core 2 duo processor would be faster than a 2.16Ghz core duo processor

even though there i a slight increase in performance that will not make up for .4 of a GHz

It's advances make up for the slight speed loss in the GHz with better L2 Cache management and other things that I won't write about here. The big win is your battery times. Get the newer CPU when you can.
