Tough to say

Depending on what application are you using.

If you use ENOVIA and CATIA v5 sad to say but Windows is better suited. The reason why, is that Dassault Systems does not support nothing but MS. It runs on Linux but is with an emulator and that defeat the purpose of having a faster system. CATIA v6 is not going to be supported on Linux according to Wikipedia.

I saw some CAD programs but they are too proprietary and really picky on what OS they ride. There are some freebies on Linux but not really good ones.

Mandriva Linux had a CAD program but is not free, does not know if still offered and need the Power Pack Edition.

Sad, but windows is not open source and not suitable at all.
