which operating system should should i use ?

i want to read pdf files on my pc .
my pc is some what old and my harddisk is not working so i want to operate my pc with my dvd reader
specification
pentium I -processor
256 mb ram
Dvd reader
corrupt harddisk of 2 Gb
video cad
audio card

suggest some light weight os . any os from linux and windows.

- 256 Mb RAM isn't so very small, but 2 GB hard disk sounds like at least 15 years old. How old is it exactly?
- It depends on what exactly "corrupt" means if you can still read those files.
- An alternative is to get the hard disk out and connect it as an external disk to another PC (won't work either if it's broken)
