Which one? Sony DCR-HC42 or Canon Elura 90?

Nov 23, 2005 12:45PM PST

Help! I have researched myself silly!!!! Hours upon hours on the web and I still can't choose between the Sony DCR-HC42 and the Canon Elura 90. I don't care about the still shots on either, I have a great digital camera. I am concerned that the Sony has a 12x while the Canon has a 20x zoom. I want this camera to record family events, nothing fancy. Looking for ease, size, and quality of picture. I guess I am what you would call a point and shoot person. Are these two cameras equal in video picture quality? I have a mac so will use their software for editing. Can someone help me make a decision? Thanks

I'm also torn between Sony DCR HC42 and Canon Elura 90.

We need to get a camcorder by March because our baby girl will be born by then.

Sony DCR-HC42

May have been superceded by the Sony DCR-HC46. I just ordered the Sony DCR-HC36, and was tempted by the differences, mainly the higher resolution CCD and the dock station for the 46, but there is always a rationale for upping the specs, and I figured I was OK where I was. FWIW, I ordered from Digitalfotoclub.com.
