General discussion

Which one of these 3 cameras should I buy?

Mar 9, 2010 1:19AM PST

1) Samsung SL30 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD (Black)

2) Nikon Coolpix 4300 4MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom

3) Kodak EASYSHARE C1013 - Digital camera - compact - 10.3 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x

What I need them for
This is going to sound strange but I have a thing for skylines and would like to take lots of pictures with them. I also make crafts and would like to take pictures of them and post them online.

My budget - (This is just in case someone suggests a camera I didn't list.)
My budget is about 100+ but I'm trying to get a blu-ray player at the same time so I'm looking to spend $60-$80. The cameras I found are in that range.

not really much to say

At even under $150, you are picking from the bottom of the barrel and then you just go with which one you like. Review sites don't review the cheapest cameras, most likely is because in the past they received bad image quality marks in testing.

Oh well

Well I'm not looking for anything spectacular. As long as the pictures don't come out blurry it's a-ok with me.

Have you considered secondhand ?

Friends regularly upgrade their cameras and usually there's someone with a 3 or 4.5 megapix one sitting in a drawer.

So long as they use AA batteries (an obsolete proprietary battery may be expensive or hard to locate) they'll probably do the job for you.

As a price guide I currently use a 6megapix Olympus bought for the equivalent of $18 in a flea market -- though I wouldn't recommend that kind of market as subtle faults won't show up in a quick test when buying. Retailers mark up secondhand too much in my view. Better to buy from friends.
