Which one is a good buy

Dec 6, 2009 6:07PM PST

Hi ,

I am just into photography and i am looking at a few digital cameras namely
1 - Fujifilm finepix S200 EXR
2 - Cannon 500D (aka rebel T1i ??)
3 - Nikon D5000

some questions
1. the finepix S200 EXR has a optical zoom of 14.3X but it's 10+ MB
why the difference as the 500D & D5000 only has 3.0X optical zoom
2. anyone has used any of those 3 above and what's ur opinion on
- user friendly
- attractive price
- picture quality
- video quality
3. Nikon D5000 has this "FishEye" , does it mean it can take underwater pictures ?
4. are the prices on CNET in USD or SGD , it seems that all are less than $900 but i see that e.g Cannon D500 is selling for 1.2 K to 1.3 K plus with the 18 - 55 mm lens
5.any other models/brands that you can recommend but within 1.2K budget ?

tks & rgds

Which is a Good Buy

All three if they suit your need.

Questions:
1.
The 500D and D5000 do not come with a lens.
You pick the lens you want.
They have lenses that have greater zoom than 3X.

2.
User Friendly - All
Attractive Price - Shop around
Picture Quality - Excellent on all
Video Quality - OK, but a camcorder is better.

3.
FishEye lens is an extremely wide angle lens.
It will distort your image.
It has nothing to do with underwater.

4.
US Dollars
It depends upon which lens you get.
Some have image stabilization and they cost more.

5.
Too many to list.

I believe you should do more investigating before you buy.

Have you considered buying a "starter" camera before you spend $1,200?
Something like the Fujifilm S1500 for $160 USD.

Hi ,

thank you for your feedback.

you have suggested fujifilm finepix S1500 for starter , i tot the cannon D500 is a entry-level. so are these 2 terms the same ?

i am also looking at those manual settings such as changing the shutter speed & ISO settings etc ..to se the quality of the pictures taken , does the S1500 allow these ?

also is there any good link to tech beginners such photography technics ?

appreciate ur further advise

Which

There are two classes of cameras:
Point and Shoot
DSLR (digital single lens reflex)

You can think of it as an automobile and an 18 wheel truck.
The 18 wheel truck takes more knowledge to use it to its fullest.
So does a DSLR camera.

The Fujifilm S1500 is an entry level Point and Shoot except it also has manual controls to adjust shutter speed, ISO, and aperture.
Those are your controls for exposure.

The Nikon D500 is an entry level DSLR camera.
It has the same manual controls as the S1500 plus over thirty more manual controls.

Here is a link that can help you understand shutter speeds, aperture and ISO settings:
