I have been a cingular customer since September 1994 when it was Bellsouth for the last 1 1/2 there customer service has gone down hill. Since the merge was with AT&T. I had the same problem on 2 different times the first time it took cingular 3 months to correct the 2nd time it took cingular 2 1/2 months. I have e-mailed the office of the President of cingular from cingular web site it stated I would get a reply in 48 hours I received a reply in about a month. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF SWITCHIBNG OF SWITCHING TO VERIZON. GO WITH VERIZON. CINGULAR CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW. GOOD

As far as coverage is concerned, both services work fine at that in NW Indiana. But as far as customer service, Verizon Wireless gets the overall lowest complaints for nationwide service. When i was looking at services, I looked at where I traveled the most and how often I might go off the network. Cingular didn't meet that requirement in March 2002 because they didn't serve LaPorte & St. Joseph Counties of Indiana. They do now because of the AT&T buyout. Verizon Wireless looked more expensive, but I chose them because of the coverage and few dropped calls, and only one dropped call with my current phone, the Samsung a650, which works in most buildings where my old Motorola 120c didn't. I say if you want a service that doesn't have poor customer service, then Verizon Wireless is the service to go with. Cingular Wireless will give you headaches every month like it did for my mom & sister when they turned off their sxervice every month, even though the bill was paid on time at a Cingular Wireless corporate store. I just wonder how many customers Cingular actually has now. I don't believe it's 48,000,000 now as it originally was because Verizon Wireless is now at over 45,000,000, when a year ago, Verizon was at 42,000,000.

As far as coverage in NW Indiana, it isn't that much better as AT&T and Cingular shared towers. Reception was never an issue for my area. People I talk to always complain the most about customer service being so bad. If Cingular can get their customer service problems resolved, there's a chance they can outperform Verizon Wireless, which overall has the best customer service and a very low turnover in customers. I won't count US Cellular on that one because they're mainly a midwest service with a few patches in other parts of the country, but I've heard good thing from people I know who use US Cellular. I however don't like their plans as they mandate 2 year contracts (at least in the Chicago market) and their phone selection is exactly the same as Verizon Wireless. Coverage in Indiana sucks because the old Primeco service wouldn't serve rural communities and Lowell Indiana is actually roaming since the phone pickup Sprint's signal in town, but US Cellular claims to serve Lowell Indiana.

Depends on where you are

and where you go. Verizon for sure in the North East and especially if you get a "Tri-Mode" phone. There are parts of the country like WAY upstate New York, VT and ME where the only signal you get is analoge and Verizon still supports it if you have a tri-mode phone. Other parts of the country I can't tell you.

The other thing with Verizon is you, the user, is reponsable for maintaning your cell phone's roaming list by dialing *228, option 2 every month or 2
