General discussion

Which one?

I can't decide between these two laptops, which both have very good qualities.
Compaq or Toshiba? Suggestions of any kind are helpful.

OKay, well some questions. Could you explain what express card and firewire is? From what i read about the firewire, its just a different kind of USB. what i read about the express card was just confusing.

Not to duplicate the web.

Firewire is not another USB. It is the way many camcorders bring in video. Not that you need that today but without that card slot you slam the door on this and other add ons.

That slot can hold many things. If you want a laptop with zero options, get the other one.

I think I get it now.

So, the Toshiba one is the better of the two, right?

I think so.

If it's a budget item and you just need a PC go cheap.

PCs are good.

Well, the names of the laptops i put are links, you do know that, right?

There is a big price difference on those two.

If you just need a PC, go with the cheap one. If there is any thought you would need anything that is not built in (like what we can add with the card slot) then the Toshiba wins.

If the store will not speak to you about this, keep shopping. I will NOT sell you on either model. I will only share why I would choose one over the other.

Thank you.

All right, that's fine. Thanks for your help. Hopefully when I go to the store with my dad we can learn what we want to help me decide. (My dad's an engineer so he's smart with computers, just not all the latest fancy stuff.)
