Which notebook to choose?

Feb 19, 2005 4:30AM PST

Hello

Could anyone advice me which notebook to choose?

I see my needs somewhere between 2 categories: thin and light and desktop replacement (Pentium M).

The main factor that plays the most important role is the reliability, no matter about the cost. I will use it as a slave so I do not want to have problem with it after 1,2 or 6 months.

For example, I have in my mind the new Dell D610 model, but I really do not know about Dell's reliability.

SO, I would be thankful to you if you could suggest me any model.

Thanks in advance

recommend HP over Dell

I used to love Dell notebooks, and, in fact, owned 2 plus one of their desktops. But my last laptop lasted 18 months before needing costly repairs and the previous one lasted almost 2 years. If you are looking for something to last about that long, then I would recommend Dell. However, I was tired of buying new laptops so fast and I switched to HP Pavillion. Granted, if I had purchased a 3 year warranty package at time of purchase, my repairs could have been at minimal cost, but I didn't think I'd need it because of Dell's reputation. I have owned my HP only for a month, but, so far, am very pleased. I customized it at their website, just like you can with Dell, and received it within 2 weeks for about the same price as Dell.

i prefer toshiba its non propietary hp and compaq are virtually the same as they joined forces. sony vaios ive known 2 people who had their lcds crap out on them in less than a year and the third person lcd was missing pixels all over the place. I have a toshiba satellite m45-s331 and works great fully loaded with power only difference between the m45-331 and the m45-351 is hard drive size. If gaming is a big deal you may be better off ordering a the canadian vesion of the m45 as they use a nvidia chip as opposed to the inttel media accelerator in the us version best thing bout the canadian version is if the video chip went its removable from the motherboard saving you money in the unlikely event not to mentio i prefer nvidia or ati for graphics instead of intel
