The 2nd notebook build has a multiformat DVD burner and CD burner (Which means you can read and write both DVD's and CD's --both DVD+ and DVD- is multiformat).

The first one is a CD-RW/DVD ROM which is fine for many but you can't burn DVD's on it (read only) -- you can still burn CD's for music and data but the capacity of the CD is much less than a DVD.

So that accounts for the cost difference. In the US the difference between a DVD burner and a CD-RW/DVD ROM (internal) can be $100-$200 US depending on the model.

This should come with a minipci card (Intel 2200b/g or equivalent) which should have 54G (backwards compatible to b) -- perhaps the first one is listed wrong but if you want the DVD burner just go with the 2nd one as that says it has wi-fi enabled.

You are getting a nice machine as this has the top end ATI 9700 with 64mb dedicated video -- these have mostly dropped off on most US retail M35X models (M30 is the same thing but mostly custom order in US) so they have only shared/integrated video.

You will be very satisfied with the ATI 9700 with 64mb (128mb is the ultimate but pricey) for games and video performance.

I recommend this Toshiba M30 with the ATI 9700 video card to everyone if they can find it but in the US it seems to be custom order only if then ...........
