Which Nikon DSLR for personal use? D60/D80/D90?

Jun 27, 2010 3:43AM PDT

Hi guys,
I'm sure this question has been asked many times but I don't have time to search past threads (Active toddler who likes to break things lol)

Right now I have a VERY old digital camera - Canon Powershot 50
It's over 6 or 7 years old and so I need to upgrade.
I wanted to get a DSLR camera because I love how focused the pictures look. I also like the option to focus on something up close, while keeping the background unfocused. I would only be using the camera for personal use - my family mostly - so many of the features would be useless to me. I don't want to spend tons of money on a camera that I am using minimal functions on.
Which camera would you suggest?

Not a DSLR

I'd suggest you look at the Sony NEX 3 or 5, Olympus E-PL1 or E-PL2, or the Panasonic GF-1. You buy DSLRs because you want the control over the camera, which doesn't sound like you're into that. If you just want camera that performs like a DSLR but use it in auto modes then look at the ones that I suggested.

Wanna start with a DSLR camera ?

That means you want to take photography seriously. In my personal opinion, you won't end up in just a camera, a single lense, a flash, and a tripod. Before you spend any money for any DSLR camera, make sure that you're willing to learn photography and preparing for some amount of money. You may get started with Nikon D90 and 18-105mm lense kit. Good luck.
