Question

Which NAS server for a small business?

Jan 5, 2012 1:16AM PST

What NAS server would you suggest for a small engineering/construction business?
I would like the following;
1) four bays of storage min
2) ease of setup/interface ( I am a structural engineer - not a IT!)
3) 10/100/1000 connectivity
4) Able to back up to an offline service
5) Able to handle small file storage such as MS-Word docs, Excel & CAD files and digital photo storage
6) be able to control storage folder access
7) be able to remotely download files to the NAS, mostley photos and Excel/Word files.
Thank you, Eric.

Answer
Haven't found one of those.

Not one NAS I found does all that. I think the reason is that some of the items would require a computer a bit more than what your everyday NAS would have.

Specifically item 4 seems to need some other PC to do that.

And can't find the cloud feature. I saw they connected to a PogoPlug which I did have for a week and it was junk then returned it.

Can you share a link to how they did that without adding more gear or using a PC to do the sync with what cloud?

Maybe your spec is not to be taken literally and it might be OK for the cloud sync to involve a PC?
