Which MP3 Player for sound recording? Please help me!!!

I would like to purchase an MP3 player for recording of music playing of my daughter in home (from about 1 meter distance to music source). I would like excellent quality of recording (small size preferable if possible and its capacity not greater than 1GB) but other aspects of it don't matter to me. I searched Internet but after many hours cannot prefer one of these: iRiver, COWON, APACER, OLYMPUS or LEXAR.
I have no idea which MP3 player fits my needs.
Please suggest which manufacturer and model is appropriate to me.

The issue of sound quality comes up from time to time and the answer is always to use an external microphone for best results. So it should be fairly quick to make a list of what MP3 player/recorders you can buy with a microphone input.
