3. Depends.

4. I've used it. Transfer speed are kind of slow and the Sony players don't support WMA (DRM) files without being converted.

5. 1GB is about 240 songs at MP3, 128 kbits (what people normally use).

6. It's more about the headphones. For system noise, it's the player's fault.

Do you need it now or can you wait a week or 2?

Recommendations:
- Samsung YP-Z5 (2GB/4GB)
- iPod Nano [fragile!] (2GB/4GB)
- Sandisk Sansa e200's (2GB/4GB/6GB)
- Sandisk Sansa m200's (512MB/1GB/2GB/4GB)

All of these except the last one have color screens and photo viewing. (It's kind of standard nowadays.)

The e200 has not been released yet. Will be late this month/early next month. Better sound quality than the player mentioned below. (according to CNET)

The m200 is available now and has a low price with good features and decent sound quality.

The Nano is ubiquitous and everyone has one. No that many feature, and easily scratched. Great sound quality.

The Samsung I'm not so sure about. (Read CNET's review or Anythung But iPod's review)

New Sandisk.

Sandisk isnt just coming out with the new highly talked e200, it is also coming out with its c100.

The Sansa c100 series is for the value-conscious consumer who wants a high-quality, large capacity music player with a color screen. It is available in 1- and 2GB capacities. The 1.21-inch (3.07 cm) color screen can be used to view thumbnail-size digital images such as album art or create a slideshow with music.

The Sansa c100 line will support Microsoft PlaysForSure subscription and downloads compliance for easy accessibility to a wide range of music and music stores. It also includes an FM digital tuner with 20-channel presets, FM on-the-fly recording and voice-recording capabilities with its built-in microphone. The new player uses a single AAA battery to power the unit and features a universal accessory connector for the easy addition of future accessories.

It will be out at the end of march, due some research on it by typing Sandisk C100 into google.

iAudio + Quality Headphones
Mar 16, 2006 7:24PM PST

iAudio have fantastic sound quality.

The iAudio U2 has been around for a while, but it is still great, and reasonably cheap now. It's a very simple music only player with great sound.

If you've got the money go for the iAudio U3 or iAudio 6. These have tiny screens that play video, but I would recommend them for the sound quality alone. Like the U2, but more powerful amps and they support FLAC (a lossless audio format).

You will need quality headphones to really appreciate the difference. I have Shure E4s, which plug deep into the ear. They give good sound isolation and fantastically clear sound. I don't allow myself to use them all the time, as I was worried I would make myself deaf. They just sound so good at high volume.

You can also get noise cancelling headphones. I personally am not keen on these. They require extra batteries and I think they make the music sound slightly false.
