Resolved Question

Which modem for Comcast internet?

Sep 10, 2011 11:03AM PDT

I have an Asus laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium, 1.3 ghz processor
and 4 gb RAM. I am about to order Comcast
internet and I want to know which modem and/or router to get. I mainly use the internet to shop, email, YouTube, watch Hulu and other TV, and I want to download movies, possibly in HD when I
get an HD TV at some point in the future.

Comcast is offering a deal on their Performance package which
supposedly will get the following: download speeds up to 15
Mbps and uploads up to 3 Mbps. I can upgrade to their Blast package for
$10/mo more which offers downloads up to 20 Mbps, uploads up to 4 Mbps.

They
also offer the UBEE Modem U10C018 for
$80 which is then free through the rebate.
They're offering the Zyxel - NBG-416N
Wireless N-lite router for $40 which is then free through the rebate.

I'm thinking
that if I eventually want to download HD movies, I should get an upgraded modem
now which does the DOCSIS 3.0 which would not be free as there are no rebates. But maybe the router is a good one. I've always used Linksys before with good
results, and I've never heard of the Zyxel brand before.

Any advice as
to which way to go would be appreciated.
Thanks,

So, get the Zyxel but which modem?

Thanks for the reply, but I'm unclear as to which modem--the one offered by Comcast even tho it's not DOCSIS 3.0 or one that is DOCSIS 3.0 for when I get an HD TV.

Here HD was fine on the non-3.0 modem.

Besides they didn't use the cable modem for the HD, that task was in their set top box.
