The real drawback to using the 18 to xxx zoom lenses is the extra weight.
Most people only need the longer zoom occasionally.
I had rather switch lenses occasionally, rather than carry around the weight of a heavy lens all the time.
A bright lens is helpful in low light situations, but a bright zoom lens is expensive.
Non zoom (native) lenses are less expensive, so think about them too.
I have a 50mm F/1.8 lens that I use indoors (without flash).
It costs less than $90.
You can always crop the photo later to get closer to the subject.
I am going to get a Canon sxi. I don't know if I should get it with a package 18-55 and 55-200 or just get a seperate lens. 18-270 tamron
I take pictures of my kids, family, vacation and sports. Also want something that I can shoot inside for school events. Kids on the stage, so low light. Would that be seperate lens that I may need to add later on?
