Which laptop to buy?

Nov 23, 2009 10:06AM PST

I am in the market for a new laptop. I use it mostly for business purposes; travel quite a bit and do a LOT of Microsoft applications. In addition, I store a LOT of pictures. Don't do any gaming. Currently have a Gateway about 4 years old that I have LOVED. Need something dependable, lightweight, lots of storage, good battery and less than $1,500. I'm confused with all of the new laptops out there - can anyone offer me some help?

In case you want an answer without looking...

This question does get asked a lot in here, but I'm OK with answering again.

It sounds like you've got a baseline of what you're looking for in your new PC. Take those "wants" and use the new PC Scout from Windows to find some PCs that fit the bill.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pc-scout/laptop-set-criteria.aspx?mode=landing

You can use the radio buttons and sliders to change the specifications of what you're looking for.

Then, and this is the important part, you're going to want to actually get your hands on the machines (at a Best Buy, Fry's, etc.) and see if they really work for you.

Hope this helps. Happy hunting!

comsumer reports it has a section the ranks all types of electronics. It separates the laptops out by the laptop class (business, gaming, entertainment). Go out and look at some and test the keyboard the screens and things you need and then research. Also look at PC World and laptop magazines for see their reviews.
