Question

Which Laptop should i get.

Hello all! I had a question for which laptop I should get for college in a major of CIS with a focus in cybersecurity. The first laptop is the dell inspiron i7559 microsoft signature edition and the new hp omen 15t only being 50 dollars more. The first which has:
i7-6700HQ (2.6) processor
gtx 960m GPU w/ 4gb vram
1tb/8gb hybrid drive
4k resolution screen
8gb ddr3l 1600mhz RAM
Windows 10 pro
and a 6 cell battery

The Omen has:
i7-7700HQ (2.8 Ghz) Processor
GTX 1050 with 2gb vram (gddr5)
1tb HDD
FHD screen
8gb ddr4 RAM
Windows 10 Home
and a 4 cell battery.

Also if the HP would it be worth getting the 4gb vram on the GPU for an extra $90?

Good suggestion

Yeah the 4k would have been overkill for my needs. But, this seems like a very good option and would fit me quite well. Thank you!!!

I guess I have to press harder on the 4K option.

Unless you fit some Nvidia 1080 GPU, 4K gaming is not going to happen. All the gamers I know that don't have the latest GPU run games at 1080p and let the display upscale.

Also, there are folk SCREAMING HOPPING MAD OVER TINY FONTS on 4K screens.

At least you were warned off the 4K idea.

Re: video ram

I'd say that 4 GB in stead of 2 GB only pays off if you play graphically intensive games. The same goes for a 4k screen. For normal student work, a standard 1920x1080 screen is fine, if not better.

See if you can get a laptop with a large enough (256 or 512 GB, according to your intended use) SSD in stead of a HDD. Uses less power (so longer battery life) and is faster.

Thanks for the response

In reply to: Re: video ram

Im not an intensive gamer (casual gamer) but will be running vietual machines which is what I need the GPU for. I would eventually end up upgrading to a ssd when tax returns come in but laptop crashed so need a new one soon.

Go with display

I think you should with dell, as dell laptops has good features. As you are college student then laptop with good display will be good for gaming too. But both laptop are good.
